Positioned for Growth
Painesville Positioned to be one of Northeast Ohio's Fastest Evolving Downtown Districts.
Just six months ago residents and council in the City of Painesville completed a new Downtown Master Plan with Paul J. Volpe, founding Principal and President of the Cleveland firm City Architecture. In the near future, Lake East Hospital will be moving to its new facility and the City of Painesville is embracing this opportunity to start implementing the plans it put in place and begin the transformation of the downtown. The City has applied for Clean Ohio grant funding in the amount of $2.5 million dollars to demolish the existing Lake East Hospital Building which was a recommendation of the plan that resulted from numerous public meetings. This grant was determined to be the best fit for the necessary building demolition because of its focus to restore, protect and connect Ohio's most important urban places by preserving and cleaning up Brownfield's to encourage redevelopment and revitalize communities. The Clean Ohio Fund is a critical component of the Ohio Bipartisan Job Stimulus Plan that aims to create jobs while laying the foundation for future economic prosperity. There is more than $31 million in requests for funding in this round of applications. This grant, if received by the City, will provide the necessary funding for the building demolition and prepare the site for redevelopment. "We are working hard to secure the funding and we will move forward in returning this site to a vital and productive use. There is a great deal of momentum at this point both from the developer, the City and the County to redevelop this site and revitalize our retail corridors." Joe Hada, President - Painesville City Council. For the complete article click here or go to www.painesville.com.
